- German Measles (Rubella)
- SYMPTOMS. First signs may be malaise, fever, swelling of lymph node behind
- the ear and in the back of the neck, sore throat and a slight cold. Later
- signs may include a flushed face, and a rash on the face and neck. This
- light rose-colored rash will spread quickly to the trunk and extremities.
- CAUSES. It is a mild viral disease but if it is contracted in the early
- months of pregnancy, it can have serious effects. It may cause congenital
- defects in the child, cause stillbirth or abortion.
- TREATMENT. Treatment is not usually needed.
- .All children should be vaccinated to prevent German measles.
